In Nonouti, Kiribati, we took some locals to a "bird island" in the lagoon where they gathered tern eggs. This is a traditional way of supplementing the islanders diet during nesting season and the terns seem abundant despite centuries of egg gathering. Our dinghy carried Uakeia and his daughter Kammari to the island and enabled them to bring the eggs back.
