Just south of Walvis Bay is a complex of salt pans and processing facilities covering 4,400 hectares. It takes two years here to convert seawater into salt. The result is 200,000 tons of salt exported to South Africa each year. This is Africa's third largest salt producer. Namibia uses some salt to make roads, including the main highway up the Skeleton Coast. |
