Above the 99 Steps we discovered the Three Queens Fountain made by Richard Hallier and unveiled in 2005. The three historically important women depicted were Queen Mary, Queen Agnes and Queen Josiah. They led a successful 1878 insurrection against the Danish Government demanding improved working and living conditions, and better wages. They were not slaves because all slaves were emancipated in 1848. Their demonstration was known as the "Fireburn."
