Steppe Eagle in iMfolozi Game Reserve. These used to be far commoner but after the fall of the Soviet regime the huge herds of Saiga Antelope in central Asia were slaughtered for their horns to be used in traditional Chinese medicine. The eagles used to feed on stillborn calves and and afterbirths and numbers have declined as a result. |
