African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) in iSimangaliso Wetland Park at St. Lucia. A Female has a wing span of 8 feet and can fly while carrying a 4-pound fish. It feeds on surface-feeding freshwater fish, carrion, small mammals, birds and the eggs of plovers and other waders. It is an aggressive hunter, known to seize a crocodile hatchling, rob a snake from a Bateleur and take fish from the beak of a Pelican. It regularly harasses other waterbirds to disgorge their prey, which it then pirates.
