African Pied Wagtail (Motacilla aguimp) in Kruger National Park. These wagtails occur across much of sub-Saharan Africa, from Senegal to Sudan south to southern Africa. They mainly eat insects (especially flies) but they also eat grass seeds, tadpoles, and small fish. They are monogamous birds and usually bring up 3 broods per season. The nest is generally close to water or on the ground in reeds, grass or flood debris. |
