This is a female with plumage different from the male. Six subspecies occur from the Yucatan down through Brazil with some gaps. This hummingbird is an insect-eater which catches dragonflies, butterflies and moths in the air. Large bugs are banged against a branch to break off the wings before they are swallowed. (Tobago) |
