This is a typical Thai "longtail" wooden fishing boat. The nickname comes from the long drive shaft extending back from the engine which is perched on the transom. Most of the engines are diesels and make quite a racket. These come in all sizes and are the most common boats in Thailand. This one is piled with traps, probably for catching fish. A flag will be attached to a buoy over each trap (or string of traps) so the fisherman can find it. |
