Here is the beach in front of the "Banana Resort" on Ao Khow-Khai, the northwestern bay. This resort had 9 bungalows when we visited in March 2010 and planned to have 15 next season. The little bridge lead to the Banana restaurant where we had several delicious meals. This beach is more protected from waves than the southwestern bay with the longer beach, so it was easier to go ashore by dinghy here. Some kayakers paddled from here one morning during our visit and were surprised to be picked up by a Burmese patrol boat. They were not mistreated, but spent three nights as "guests" in that other country before being released back into Thailand. The incident reminded us that we were very close to the border and should not sail towards the tempting islands visible to the northwest. |
