David Livingstone was a Scottish explorer and missionary who saw the falls in 1855 and named it for Queen Victoria. He spent many years on expeditions in Africa. In 1871 he had been out-of-contact for several years when journalist Stanley found him and supposedly said "Dr. Livingstone I presume?" He died in Zambia in 1873 where his heart was buried under a tree. The rest of his body was interred in Westminister Abbey. |
