Welwitschia mirabilis plants are endemic to Namibia and we were delighted to see several at the Petrified Forest. Some are male and some are female. The plants flower from January to March and their nectar attracts insects to carry pollen grains to other plants for fertilization. About nine months after fertilization the female cones reach maturity in the Namibian Spring. |
