The eastern rest camp in Etosha is at Namutoni. The waterhole was used by Etosha's European discoverers in 1851. The frontier fort was built by the Germans in 1902 to supervise trade with Owamboland. The Owambos destroyed it in 1904 but it was rebuilt and is now a national monument.
