The Ayeyarwady River begins 43 km (25 miles) north of Myitkyina at the junction of the Mayhka and Malihka rivers in the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains. In the dry season when we visited the nights are often cool while the days are hot. Nina's warm jacket shows that it was definitely chilly sitting on the boat with wet feet in the morning mist.
