The river level at Mytkyina changes dramatically between rainy and dry seasons, so there is no dock. Everyone has to wade through the chilly water over slippery stones carrying their luggage to board the riverboat. On a cool and foggy morning this is not really comfortable, but does add a flavor of adventure to the trip.
