The road from Bagan to Kalaw was one of the most dangerous we have ever traveled. We rode both ways on standard-sized large buses. The road was a major highway, the best land route to the Inle Lake area. The unpaved road without shoulders or guardrails went over high hills, often with steep dropoffs from the edge of the traveled surface. In places it was too narrow, or the curves were too sharp, for two large vehicles to pass. Our buses crawled most of the way through the hills, barely avoiding bad accidents. |
