Than Htike was an exceptionally talented sand painter. Here he was improving another artist's finished painting by adding white to the eyeballs and curls to the eyelashes. Most of Bagan's sand painters used light tables to copy existing patterns, so they exercised very little creativity but cranked out inexpensive souvenirs using well-proven subjects, designs, sizes and colors.
