This was the main entrance to the Sulamani Pahto. The covered stands along both sides of the entrance were vendor stalls where carvings, sand paintings, cheap lacquerware and other souvenirs were spread out for sale. Practically every temple in Bagan had a similar gauntlet of vendors which had to be run through before arriving at the temple itself. The vendors varied in numbers and sales techniques, but were always present and sometimes very persistent. They almost always outnumbered the tourists. |
