Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated mainly by people from the Tamil Nadu region of India. In 2010 it was held during Dorothy and Dan's visit to Penang on January 30, their 18th anniversary. One of the rituals was smashing coconuts along the path of the 116-year-old silver chariot which carried even older sacred images. We photographed this before sunrise. (An exceptionally early morning for us.) The Penang city workers were out in force to clean the streets immediately. |
