As soon as our anchor was down boys approached in canoes to sell honey. The villagers apparently collect it from wild bees in the forests. There seemed to be a standard price of 10,000 Ariary per one and one-half liters for the honey, but the boys sometimes asked for more. These boys were polite and fun to talk with. They suggested trading for crabs or eggs and asked for all sorts of things they thought we might have aboard. |
