Daniel was one of the two teachers at the village school which had about 80 pupils. Funding came entirely from the local village, none from the government, so salaries and facilities were minimal. Daniel visited our boat several times. He traded with us for bananas, squid, and other things. We gave him copies of photos of himself and he was grateful because such things were practically unavailable to him. He was a very friendly, nice man whose stern expression probably indicated the significance of the photo to him.
