Pin-tailed Whydah (Vidua macroura) in iMfolozi Game Reserve. This species lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, especially Waxbills. Unlike the Cuckoos, this species does not destroy the eggs of the other birds. These small songbirds are resident in most of Africa south of the Sahara Desert. The bodies of these birds are 12-13 cm (4.8 inches) in length, while an adult male is 20 cm (7,8 inches) longer with its long tail. They eat seeds and grain. |
