Crowned Lapwing (Vanellus coronatus) or Crowned Plover, in Postberg Reserve beside Saldanha Bay. This species prefers dry, short grass areas and 80-90% of its diet is termites. The nest is a scrape in the ground, lined with dried grass, roots, small stones and dried dung. Chicks leave the nest after about 4 hours when their down is dry. They fledge after about a month and become fully independent at the beginning of the following breeding season a year later. They can live for 20 years.
