Blue-cheeked Bee-eaters (Merops persicus) in iSimangaliso Wetland Park at St. Lucia. These bee-eaters are migratory and winter in tropical Africa after breeding in Morocco, Algeria and subtropical Asia. They nest colonially in sandy banks after making a long tunnel in which 4 to 8 eggs are laid. Both parents incubate the eggs. These birds feed on insects (mainly bees, wasps and hornets).
