Ko Phayam is one of the northernmost Thai islands in the Andaman Sea at 9 deg 44' N and 98 deg 24' E. It is about 10 km from N to S and about 7 km from W to E. The long beach on the southwest side and the more-protected beach of the northwest bay had several small "laid-back" resorts where tourists relaxed in the sun. While we were visiting in 2010 a prominent newspaper in England touted this as one of Thailand's last few get-away places. This kind of publicity will probably increase tourism and lead to more development of the island. Ferries from Ranong arrived at the pier on the east side where there was a small village. The tourist season here is November through April. This map sign was located at one of the main crossroads on the island.
