Onions are a key part of our usual cuisine so we tried to store many of them for a long period. Nina was disappointed in the onions available in Sri Lanka. They had many flaws and considerable internal moisture which made them go bad rapidly. She spent much time peeling and drying them, even drying some as flakes in the sun. Most were eventually stored in a "hammock" in the forepeak. Behind the onions are some of the dried and packaged food we accumulated, including crackers, nuts and pasta.
