Here the women are placing unfired pots to be fired. No one is allowed to see the pots being shaped, not even the men of their village. However, at the Melanesian Festival of Arts in Port Vila we watched them demonstrate their firing process. Some of the women recognized us from when we stopped at their village. They told us that we had a better bowl than they could fire here because it was breezy. Usually they only fire their pots when there is no wind.
