Here at Lehali Village on the 25th of July 2002, the newly ordained Father Benjamin is carried in an outrigger canoe with a steering paddle, a local custom symbolizing his new power to guide the people. He was the only the second person from Ureparapara Island to be ordained as an Anglican priest. Leading the procession with pig tooth pendant and palm branch is Chief Nicholson. The Anglican Bishop, a Solomon Islander, is just in front of the canoe. We enjoyed the huge feast and the local dancing. Nina made two cakes for the celebration feast.
