This standing stone is the backrest of the "Tui Tonga," the absolute ruler of all Tonga. The kings who sat here sent fleets of fierce warriors to make war on islanders all across the Pacific, and received visitors bearing gifts and tribute. It is difficult to imagine the amount of power once wielded by the men who used to sit right where Pete and Jerry are sitting.
