This big purse seiner has taken a park mooring to rest or make repairs. There are probably 15 to 20 men in this boat's crew to handle the enormous net. The waters around these islands are often either very deep or too full of coral for comfortable anchoring, so the moorings are very useful. All these moorings use strong ropes, but chafing on coral and cuts from propellers are possibilities so we use our anchor and chain when the water isn't too deep and there is no coral we might damage. |
