Coco de Mer trees have the largest seeds in the world. These plants are indigenous to an island in the Seychelles. We were not going there because of the dangers posed by Somali pirates. It was great to see these in the Peradeniya Botanic Gardens, just a 12-cent bus ride from Kandy. Each of the double coconuts weighs 10 to 20 kilograms (up to 45 pounds) and takes about 5 years to fully develop.
