Cricket is the most important sport in Sri Lanka. Although it is a small country it has a national team which plays internationally at the highest level. In 2011 it was (with India and Bangladesh) a host country for the Cricket World Cup. Some of the World Cup matches were played in this stadium beside the old Dutch Fort. Groundskeepers were preparing for these matches when this photo was taken. The Sri Lankan team eventually took second place in this World Cup, beaten in the final game by India in Mumbai.
