This is one of the large posts holding up the roof of Ariki Taumako's house. The carving looks like some type of billfish, though Wahoo seem more important to these islanders. Wahoo migrate through this area at certain times of the year and have highly desirable meat. Note how many things are stored up under the roof. They don't have closets or attics. |
