There is a sizeable Gilbertese settlement at Gizo, which surprised us. The Gilbertese apparently came here in the 1960s. They still speak their own language, and immediately noticed Nina's Kiribati blouses. We watched a Gilbertese dance troupe perform at the "PT109 Bar" (named for J. F. Kennedy's boat which was rammed by a Japanese destroyer and sunk near Gizo.) |
