This Samoan "fale" (house) is typical of their traditional type. It has a raised, level platform and sturdy posts creating a large open oval under its roof. The tropical breezes blow through and keep the occupants cool. For privacy, sun shade, or storm protection there are mats which can be hung along the sides.
