We spent an afternoon at the Shwedagon, Burma's most important Buddhist monument. Workmen were repairing and repainting some of the concrete chinthe (legendary half-lion half-dragon guardian figures). The gold on these was spray-painted but there were solid slabs of real gold on the main stupa.
