This 8m (26 feet) tall Buddha was carved from a single block of marble and weighs 900 tons. The block from which it was carved was so enormous that it is said 10,000 men needed 13 days to move it from a nearby canal to the present site. The image was completed in 1865 and the Kyauktawgyi Paya which houses it was finished in 1878.
