This passing ferry was like the one we rode from Katha to Mandalay. Our ferry was built in China in 1995 in the Wusong Shipyard of the Changjiang National Shipping Corporation. When the river is deeper, these ferries travel all the way up to Bhamo. The shallow water was too difficult to navigate in the dark, so our boat anchored for the night. On the second day we were so close to Mandalay that the ferry continued for a while after dark and got stuck about one mile north of Mandalay. We had to transfer to a small boat to complete our journey.
