This pillar has an inscription written in four languages (Pyu, Mon, Old Burmese and Pali) making it comparable in some ways to the famous "Rosetta Stone" of Egypt. It consecrated nearby Gubyaukgyi (Great Painted Cave Temple) and related the chronology of the Bagan kings. The temple, built in 1113, has well-preserved paintings which visitors are not allowed to photograph. This is in the small town of Myinkaba, just south of Old Bagan. |
