As we rowed into the water gate of Nan Madol's main entrance, one oar struck a rock underwater. Part of the blade broke off, as you can see in this photo. We could still row, but efficiency was impaired. It was as if some ancient defensive mechanism was still operating, trying to hamper invaders.
