Tanjong City Marina was located on the Georgetown waterfront right beside the terminal for ferries to Butterworth on the mainland. It was completed in 2005, and was a government facility which we visited several times. This was an ideal location from which we enjoyed historic Georgetown, a "World Heritage" site. Unfortunately, the marina had severe problems so was seldom filled to capacity. It did not have a breakwater to protect it from waves and ferry wakes, so some of the docks broke away. Cruising boats often suffered severe rolling here, sometimes snapping docklines and breaking cleats. A serious silting problem made many of the slips unusable despite dredging. The filthy water was full of floating rubbish which a work crew picked up every morning. The "QE2" nightclub (at left in this photo) blasted very loud music until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. We understand this marina is now closed.
