The Oil Palm tree produces fruit from which two types of oil are manufactured. The oils are widely used in soap, grease, margarine, and many other products. Refining can transform some of this oil into diesel fuel. The worldwide increasing demand for oil has caused oil palm plantations to spread rapidly over enormous areas. Malaysia produces more palm oil than any other country. While economically important, the replacement of native forests with oil palms is disastrous for other plants and wildlife.
