One island was called "Sacred" because this African Baobab tree grew there. These trees grow in circumference about one meter per hundred years. This one was 15 meters around so was about 1500 years old. It was considered sacred by Malagasy people who came here to make offerings and pray to have more children. For an obvious reason this tree was believed to have phallic potency.
