This man introduced himself as the President of the area, and he did seem to be a politician. He came with his son who claimed to be a natural healer, an "ombiasa." The son gave Nina a little massage with coconut oil to cure her aching ribs, hurt when she slipped and fell into our cockpit. The massage didn't fix her ribs as instantly as they hoped. The President's daughter was a schoolteacher so we gave them a big box of school supplies in addition to money for the massage and an old rope for their sailing canoe. They also enjoyed several cups of coffee and slices of banana bread.
