Pakbeng is a small, isolated town. It used its own generators for electricity, and its marketplace was poor. Nina was unable to find decent fruit and vegetables there at 7am, and most stalls were closed by 8:30. Despite this scarcity, above the shabby tin roofs of the market were several satellite antennas and new guesthouses were being built. Changes were happening fast. |
