The harbor near the Ranger Station at Rindja Island sees foreign yachts like the three-spreader Italian sloop and Indonesian boats like the ketch. These big wooden boats are still built in the traditional manner on Sulawesi Island (Celebes). In olden days these sailing ships of the Bugis people were often considered pirates, the dreaded "Boogiemen" who attacked colonial shipping. Now they have engines and comfortable accommodations for tourists. |
