We rented bicycles one day on Aitutaki and rode them clockwise around the island. Banyan trees have long been the trees of power in Polynesia. They are often found near homes of chiefs and near maraes (religious centers.) A few have now been turned into pigpens by adding a little fencing to the outer trunks. |
