The Bourse du Commerce building on the waterfront was built in 1820. After its destruction in 1902 it was rebuilt like the original. Paul Charpentier, (1910-2004) an artist and fine arts teacher, created Martinique's first art gallery in the building. When we visited it housed the town's Art and History Departments.
