Much of the creative work is done in this workshop where a bronze begins as a clay sculpture. The clay sculpture is used to make a rubber mold. The rubber mold is filled with melted wax, which hardens into the same form as the original clay. The wax is encased in hard silicon which can withstand melted bronze. The wax runs out when heated. Molten bronze is poured into the silicon mold where it hardens to form the desired shape. The silicon is broken away and the piece is ready for final polishing and perhaps coloring. |
