This is the first boat we owned so it was the first we needed to maintain. We soon learned about the need for special antifouling paints to keep the bottom smooth and speedy. Those paints usually contained dangerous chemicals so we avoided skin contact with those paints and avoided breathing their fumes. Later, we routinely used protective clothing and a respirator when antifouling.
