This desk and its associated equipment is the "navigation station." Many paper charts are stored under the desktop. There is a GPS for determining our position and entering waypoint coordinates for route planning. There is a VHF radio for communicating with nearby boats. There is a radar screen which we sometimes use in situations of restricted visibility. The yellow EPIRB is for emergency signaling via satellites, which we hope never to need.
